Bath Bomb Science Class

Updated: Sep 12, 2022

Our Fall co-op season started out with some creative, messy science-Bath Bomb Homeschool science class. We began by watching this video on youtube to learn more about the history and science of bath bombs.

Next the students did a couple of experiments to see the chemical reactions in real time. They used different ratios of baking soda to citric acid and made hypothesize about how the differing ratio would impact the reaction and the temperature. They also learned that the reaction in bath bombs is an endothermic reaction (a chemical reaction that absorbs heat from its environment).

We ended the class by pairing up the students to creative the bath bomb "batter" in several different colors. Then each student made their own bath bombs. We used these presses from Amazon. The bath bombs need to dry overnight, so we had some pre-made bath bombs for the students to take home and they will receive their bath bombs at the next meetup. The class lasted for about two hours and the students were engaged with learning and creating throughout the class. It was such a fun way to start the Fall season.
